Business Lessons from @HuffPost founder, Media Maverick Arianna Huffington

One of my favorite marketing and PR conferences of the year is the Vocus conference – a great opportunity to meet top marketing and public relations talent and authors who are setting the tenor of the current marketing conversation.

This year, the Vocus conference took place at the Gaylord National Harbor Resort and Conference Center on the outskirts of Washington, DC. Several hundred communicators from all over convened to learn from marketing pros and of course get the latest from the Vocus team.

One of the highlights of the conference was the opening keynote from Arianna Huffington – the founder and now editor-in-chief of the Huffington Post. I was excited to hear Arianna’s thoughts on media and business because I remember when she launched her site back in 2005. In some circles, she was laughed at. But as a PR pro, I know that landing a client a story in the Huffington Post is always welcomed. So who’s laughing now?

Arianna is a true example of what it means to have vision and pursue that vision relentlessly – in the face of critics and adversity. You’d be hard-pressed today to find someone (especially in media) who hasn’t heard of the Huffington Post – and yet the site has only been in existence for eight years.
